The apartment/studio search in the bay area begins... I was originally looking for a place in Walnut Creek in order to simplify the act of transitioning. On some recommendations though I have started looking in the Rockridge area of Oakland. Does anything have any insight or thoughts on the area?

Thank you =)

I'll be up in San Francisco this week for work. Spending a week going through the rapid track RHCE (Red Hat) course in order to gauge whom would be most well suited to attend it from the county.

It's been fun so far... every time I'm up here it just reminds me of how much I really love this city. I'm staying at the Orchard Hotel on the corner of Powell and Bush... kind of a nice spot close to just about everything I could want.

I hope that everyone has been doing well, take care =) !

Passed the BCRAN with a 988/1000 score... that means I'm halfway to the CCNP. The next 6 weeks will be busy... a week of Foundry training in Santa Clara the second week of December, the remaining two CCNP tests on Dec 4 and then Dec 18th... and RHCE rapid-track course for a week in January up at MicroTek in San Francisco.

Whew. I can't wait to take a little break after all of this and before RHCA and LPIC-3. After those I think I'll pretty much be done.

Regards!

I'm just procrastinating hopping in the shower and getting to work... =) It's been a really good year so far. What more can I say? I'm booked solid studying for certs... working on a deal with KSBY to allow for the local soaring association (SLOSA) to put a weather station up at Cuesta Peak. It's looking very promising. Studying for CCNP exams... have the remaining three scheduled every two weeks starting on Monday. Also have Foundry training coming up, the county has recently purchased two of their load balancers which seem to me to be excellent, relatively simple to set up, and well reviewed.

I had a $50k monitoring budget that I officially used $0 of to roll Nagios out with. This leaves me with $50k to spend, and we are really playing with it -- So far we've ordered a few Picotux's and Gumstix's to play with for testing and remote logging/trap reception/diagnosis/who the hell knows.

We are also going to get the entire infrastructure team at the county going to Red Hat courses scattered over the next year. Greg and myself, so far, are interested in just taking the rapid-track to RHCE course and then RHCA classes. The rest of team, that doesn't have all that much experience, I'm getting set up to walk through several courses each over different weeks.

LPIC-3 looks like it's about ready to (finally) be released. Along with the addition of the RHCA, my certification goals have morphed slightly. They are: RHCA, LPIC-3, CCNP, MCSE. So far I have the LPIC-2, CCNA (and 1/4 of CCNP), and MCSE. Don't hate me for my MCSE! The county paid for me to get it!

Anyways... that was an overwhelmingly self-directed post, as usual.

A lot of people don't know this actually. It's not because I intentionally hide the fact, but it's just because I don't think to mention it. Often I'll mention "my brothers" before I mention that I'm a triplet or that we are all the same age. I guess it would be sort of similar to you mentioning the birthday of your siblings in conversation.

2) My mom died of cancer 3 years ago. My father met a wealthy wife of some kind of a dead hotel mogul from Monterey online less than 6 months after she died and they are married now. She is crazy and all of my brothers and family pretty much loathe her, but she may be keeping my father alive so we accept her.

3) I am a humanist and I am I drawn to buddhist scripture. I make an effort to read a daily buddha vacana. I am unable to convince myself that there isn't a Creator.

4) I am passionate about technology. It's a magnet-like attraction that has always been there. I stopped including what I know, because there is so much more that I don't. I've kind of hit a state over the last 10 years where I'm constantly learning and rehashing and renewing... it's like a well that never fills up all the way but the water keeps getting purer.

5) I have fond memories of fishing for catfish and crabbing with my grandfather by his house on the Chesapeake bay. I'm an east-coaster by blood - Maryland, specifically.

6) I love the arts. So much so that it evokes incredibly emotional responses from me. Human beings are capable of so much creation and expression, it often brings me to tears.

I think that everyone on my friends list has been tagged already, but in case not... I will tag: nogzor and moorlock and aikien

down in thousand oaks

welp, i drove down to thousand oaks today... getting a week of training on nortel's new series of routers resulting from their tasman purchase. i stopped by the local testing center and finished off my lpic-2 certification (perfect score!) and finally retested for my ccna and got that too...

that means... in the last 5 weeks... mcse 2003, lpic-2, and ccna. the goal is to have finished off my ccnp and and also picked up my rhce within the next 6 months. this is all leading up to something... plus musical certifications is fun!

progress

well... i have officially passed by 6 months probationary period at the county of san luis obispo. i received excellent remarks on my review. so i get my little pay increase and the continued satisfaction of working in, what i consider to be, the ideal environment for this point in my life.

i am continuing to pursue certifications... I have accrued a couple of them so far, and will be tackling CCNP and then RHCE before this time next year.

i believe, quite strongly, that my future will take me to walnut creek and lawrence livermore national laboratory.
